Soils Engineer, West Riding County Council, involved in motorway construction and site investigation.

1974-82
Chief Soils Engineer, South Yorkshire County Council, responsible for site investigation, laboratory testing and highway pavement assessments.

1982
Principal of Michael D Joyce Associates LLP, an independent consultancy in geotechnical engineering and environmental science offering a wide range of specialist services to the building and civil engineering industries, insurers and the legal profession. Completed projects have involved site investigation, earthworks, foundation design, reclamation, landfill, contaminated land, methane problems and forensic engineering.
