Background
The textile bridge is a temporary art installation across the River Skell at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire. A basic truss-frame footbridge forms the main structure. Extended arms from the truss form the outer points for a textile skin around the outside which gives it its sculpted shape.
Structural materials: This can be from steel or wood. Wood to be treated. Steel to be powder coated in black. The arms for the points are to be separate ‘bolt-on’ units for ease of access to site. The main span can be delivered and installed as a single section.
Textile: The textile is not load-bearing and purely aesthetic. This will be from 100g waterproof- coated nylon fabric – similar to a heavy duty tent skin. Colour – red.
