The Remediation and Verification Strategy is based on the findings of the Phase 2 Ground Investigation. The investigation assesses the potential pollution linkages between a contaminative source and the relevant receptors. This forms the Conceptual Site Model. It includes a clear set of remediation activities and how this will be implemented and verified. It will include a Remediation Options Appraisal that indentifies the individual remediation solutions, and selection of the preferred option(s) based on technical and financial criteria, timescales and stakeholder requirements.
The remediation strategy sets out the options as to how the contamination can be most effectively dealt with. In many cases, this will involve a “clean cover system” which essentially provides a physical barrier between the contaminants and the end users of the site, but can include;
- Excavation and removal
- Solidification or stabilisation
- In-situ or ex-situ bioremediation
- Soil washing and attenuation
- Pump and treat (for groundwater)
